Introduction

What do you expect of this course?
- I try not to create expectations, but I hope this course teaches me what I need to know to excel in life and make my way through the rest of high school. I expect it will teach me the reading and writing skills I need in order to get into and get through college in the next few years. Without these skills I don't think I'll have much confidence in my chances of making it through to where I want to be. English has never been my best subject, so hopefully this semester I can try to turn that around and do better than just 'passing'. I don't expect this course to be quick or easy, but I hope its easy enough to understand so that I can learn the reading/writing skills I need for college.

What skills do you want to learn?
- As I said before, I want to work on my reading and writing skills. I think my comprehension is okay, but there is always room for improvement. Writing is a bit off for me; I'm used to free writing and fixing what doesn't look and/or sound right. But in English that doesn't seem to work, so I hope that this semester I can figure out what I'm doing wrong and make my writing better. If I can achieve that, I think I'll be pretty set for English.

What are your strengths in English?
- I think my strengths are in proper use of spelling, grammar and punctuation. In 6th grade I had a language arts teacher who was really anal retentive about the way we spelled words, what grammar we used and if we used the correct punctuation. Now, even when I'm just talking to friends - online or in person, I use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation. She was really strict and kind of mean, but she etched those important writing skills into my brain and I am thankful for that. Reguardless of what other students thought of her, she was a good teacher.

What work are you proud of?
- The only work I'm really proud of is my MySpace blogs. Thats where I can just free write/type about things that bother me or I have a special interest in. I tend to delete a lot of the blogs I post not long after I post them, but I keep the ones that make me think.

What are your weaknesses in English?
- My weaknesses would be knowing what to and not to put into my writing. I have a bad habit of getting off topic easily and I think that has some impact on the grade I get on my essays.

Good information. I like how you organized the questions and answered under them. I like that you get our job as teachers is to help give you tools to excel in life not just teach you the ABC's and XYZ's. You have an amazing mind. When you focus it your goals and dreams are attainable and I would not be surprised a bit to see you in college pursuing a solid career in life. You people skills are outstanding for your age. Keep being positive in life and people will continue to flock to you.
