I think this is the correct benchmark used for the "This I Believe" essay. At this pace, less is more; precise and strong verbs help build power in the writing. Know your audience and plan accordingly in your style of writing. "This I Believe" essays are personal narratives so select the appropriate words that go along with the tone your essay will take.
