For this assignment we'll be comparing the short story worksheet "The Lady, or the Tiger" to the pacing guide Ms. L gave us a couple weeks ago.
1.b [Yellow]
For benchmark 1.b, it says to "use context clues to define and interpret figurative words and phrases". This does relate to the reading worksheet because in it we did exactly that. The definition to the words were not written out for us; we had to use the context to figure out what the words or phrases meant. By doing this I think we are strengthening our skills in reading and comprehension because we have to depend soley on the context to understand the meaning of what we are reading.
2.d [Red]
As benchmark 2.d states, we are to collaborate as teams and direct ourselves. For this assignment thats precisely what we did; we conversed and compared ideas, helping each other to decide what each of the words and questions meant as well as how to answer them. We assumed our roles in a group and facilitated group movement toward our goal, which was to finish the assignment and better understand the short story we were given.
2.e [Red]
"Utilize peer feedback, style manuals, and electronic tools to revise, edit and evaluate their own texts." Feedback is important, it gives us insight on what we could be doing wrong or it could motivate us to continue doing better. In this assignment, we got feedback from our peers and instructor to help us better understand the writing. Not only can you recieve feedback from people around you, but you can always get feedback by yourself by comparing your work to the rubric of what you're doing or checking resources.
6.b [Blue]
In "The Lady, or the Tiger" we used our own knowledge to figure out the text. Applying this knowledge helped us to better understand the short story so that we could answer the questions without much trouble. Since we didn't have a dictionary or any resources to refer to, our selection of answers depended entirely on our prior knowledge to the words and how we could connect the context to them. Once we pieced together what the words could mean, we were able to better understand the text itself.
